These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the EnlightenJourney learning platform, including the website at enlightenjourney.org and the application at app.enlightenjourney.org (together, the “Service”). The Service is operated by EnlightenJourney in connection with FAFLab at the University of Essex and partners.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
EnlightenJourney provides online courses, learning materials, community features, and related tools. We may add, change, or remove features. Some capabilities (including AI assistance) depend on third-party providers and may not always be available.
2. Accounts
- You must provide accurate information and keep your login details confidential.
- You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
- We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms or that presents a security or legal risk.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, infringe others’ rights, or post harmful, harassing, or misleading content;
- attempt to access other users’ accounts, our systems, or non-public areas of the Service;
- upload malware, scrape the Service in an abusive way, or interfere with its operation;
- use AI features to generate content that is unlawful, or to impersonate others.
4. Courses and content
Course materials, branding, and software are owned by EnlightenJourney, the University of Essex, partners, or their licensors. You may use them only for your own learning through the Service. You may not copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit them without permission.
If you submit content (comments, assignments, uploads, prompts), you grant EnlightenJourney a non-exclusive licence to host and display that content as needed to operate the Service. You remain responsible for what you submit.
5. AI features
Optional AI tools may help generate text, images, or other materials. Outputs can be inaccurate or unsuitable. You should review them before use. AI requests may be processed by third-party providers (currently including Google Gemini for images and Venice AI for text). Do not submit secrets or personal data about others in prompts.
6. Availability
We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance or experience outages.
7. Liability
The Service is provided as-is for educational use. To the fullest extent permitted by law, EnlightenJourney, FAFLab, the University of Essex, and partners are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.
8. Changes
We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
